MALAMATA X ia LLAMOZAS
This collaboration stems from Matisse’s love of paper cutouts. When I contacted Marta, I had already seen her incredible jewelry work at a fair in the beautiful town of Garachico. Months later I contacted Marta to discuss the possibility of a collaboration where the paper would complement her pieces. Both of us were excited about the idea and I started working.
THE SERIE
The MALAMATA X ia LLAMOZAS series consists of 3 handmade collages using magazines and paper cutouts. I selected earrings from the VIDA collection which is of course inspired by Matisse. The concept behind the works was to get 3 women who could wear this accessory and thus transform their image into something playful and fun as the pieces inspire. In all of them, I wanted to add movement to the face to eliminate the identity of the woman, and thus make it possible for anyone to identify themselves, and also to play with the idea that with just one accessory we can show a facet of how we are or feel that day.
The earrings are made of colored cardboard to highlight that connection with Matisse’s cutouts, and the backgrounds are circles torn from paper to complement that happy and positive world that the pieces inspire me. All the works include colored dots because I liked the idea of adding an element that would create the illusion that the works are talking to each other.
VIDA
The series of collages for me came to life when I met Marta. We talked about her career and when we took the photos it was very nice because everything came out very naturally. Esta colaboración surge del amor hacía los recortes de papel de Matisse. Cuando contacté con Marta ya había vistos su increíble trabajo de joyería en una feria en el precioso pueblo de Garachico. Meses más tarde contacté con Marta para comentar la posibilidad de una colaboración donde el papel complementara sus piezas, emocionadas las dos con la idea comencé a trabajar.
LA SERIE
La serie MALAMATA X ia LLAMOZAS consiste en 3 collages hechos a mano utilizando revistas y recortes de papel. Seleccioné pendientes de su colección VIDA que por supuesto está inspirada en Matisse. El concepto detrás de las obras era conseguir a 3 mujeres que pudieran llevar este accesorio y así transformar su imagen en algo lúdico y divertido como inspiran las piezas. En todas ellas quise añadir movimiento al rostro para eliminar la identidad de la mujer, y así podernos identificar todas, y también para jugar con la idea de que con sólo un accesorio podemos mostrar una faceta de cómo somos o nos sentimos ese día.
Los pendientes están hechos en cartulinas de colores para resaltar esa conexión con los recortes de Matisse, y los fondos son círculos rasgados en papel para complementar ese mundo alegre y positivo que me inspiran las piezas. Todas las obras incluyen punticos de colores, porque me gustaba la idea de añadir un elemento que creara la ilusión de que las obras están conversando entre ellas.
VIDA
La serie de collages para mi tomó vida cuando conocí a Marta. Conversamos sobre su trayectoria y en el momento que hicimos las fotos fue muy bonito porque todo surgió muy natural.
